Donor Profile: East West Bank

East West Bank Makes $1 Million Gift
As one of the Chinese Garden’s earliest advocates, East West Bank has enthusiastically helped raise interest in the project among the local Chinese community.  It has done so in part by sponsoring The Huntington’s Chinese New Year festivals. Now the financial institution, headquartered in Pasadena, has demonstrated its tremendous commitment to the Chinese Garden with a $1 million donation to help support construction costs.

It is The Huntington’s first-ever $1 million cash gift from a corporation. “This generous gift from East West brings us much closer to completing the funding for the Garden’s first phase,” says President Steven Koblik. “This is a terrific partnership between two institutions deeply committed to celebrating the rich complexities of Chinese culture and the significant role the Chinese have played historically in California.”

The gift will be acknowledged with a plaque bearing the company’s name at the Jade Ribbon Bridge within the garden. The bridge symbolizes the connection and integration of two cultures, which is what both East West Bank and The Huntington seek to do.

“I am pleased that East West Bank can help bring to Southern California an authentic Chinese garden for the community to enjoy and learn more about Chinese art, culture and history,” says Dominic Ng, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of East West Bank.
